I know that some people have already given lots of tips, with a little more:
In terms of time travel in China / Great Wall, I recommend the end of April and late May or early September to November.
Please avoid the first week in May - there is a "Golden Week" (May 1 public holiday - a week) and the first week (in October National Day - a week)
See this in relation to the sections of the wall, is my recommendation to the Badaling section to avoid - is overcrowded. Mutianyu is a good choice, and so is Simatai. Simatai is a little farther - about two hours from Beijing, but the CD is interesting - you will be able to see the countryside, mountain areas and the Great Wall as well. Hotels, depends on your budget. Stay in the city is certainly the better choice.
There are hotels for low cost (small example) Wangfujing (shopping area, near Tiananmen Square), providing a good starting point for a tour of sites in Beijing, as well as access to transport, etc.
is preferably before the winter, but if you specify which part of the wall has been proposed to be better, he can stay there for 2 days and there are more places to move.
I spent a month in China last summer. I have a good place to prepare myself. www.itsaboutchina.com a few e-mails directly guide in the region who can help
If you are traveling to the United States, would be more convenient to travel to Beijing and stay in a hotel in the city. You can easily the Great Wall (to rent a taxi, go with a guide, contact a travel agency) with the bus, and may take several hours to walk, with stunning visuals.
There are two major sections of the Great Wall are easily accessible from Beijing - Badaling and Mutianyu. I was at a time and offer a great view. Moreover, the two elevators) (gondolas, which can lead to the summit if they be less inclined to go through.
Mutianyu I prefer because it is usually less crowded in perfect condition and watchtowers that can really cool to see the famous sights. Here are some facts from Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutianyu
If) you choose with a Chinese company travel (Air China, for example, we recommend that you go through a travel agency in China, on the basis of a flight booking or www.cytsusa.com www.citsusa.com. Excursions can be arranged, but asonly flights or book.
Spring and autumn are the best times to visit because of the weather conditions are best. Think you can avoid it, to visit the Great Wall (and other popular tourist spots) during the holidays. The size of the crowd go crazy if you do not!
As for hotels in Beijing, the Novotel Peace Hotel Beijing Wangfujing is a good choice because it is close to many interesting places: the Forbidden City, Tian'anmen Square, Hutong, shops, restaurants, subway, etc.
