What is the best time to visit the Great Wall? Is there a cheap hotel there?

I know that some people have already given lots of tips, with a little more:

In terms of time travel in China / Great Wall, I recommend the end of April and late May or early September to November.

Please avoid the first week in May - there is a "Golden Week" (May 1 public holiday - a week) and the first week (in October National Day - a week)

See this in relation to the sections of the wall, is my recommendation to the Badaling section to avoid - is overcrowded.
Mutianyu is a good choice, and so is Simatai.
Simatai is a little farther - about two hours from Beijing, but the CD is interesting - you will be able to see the countryside, mountain areas and the Great Wall as well.
Hotels, depends on your budget. Stay in the city is certainly the better choice.

There are hotels for low cost (small example) Wangfujing (shopping area, near Tiananmen Square), providing a good starting point for a tour of sites in Beijing, as well as access to transport, etc.

As for hotels in Beijing, the Novotel Peace Hotel Beijing Wangfujing is a good choice because it is close to many interesting places: the Forbidden City, Tian'anmen Square, Hutong, shops, restaurants, subway, etc.
